Who we are:
We are a student-run nanotechnology organization at Texas A&M University. We seek to promote the dissemination of nanotechnology related research at Texas A&M, with emphasis on the role of students. We are currently in the process of establishing officer positions and ratifying a constitution. Once completed, we intend to have bi-monthly meetings where we invite a diverse collection of interesting nanotechnology speakers as well as to establish student workshops on nanotechnology. A national society for NaNSA is being formed by the University of Washington, and we seek to become a recognized chapter in the near future.

Brief Mission Statement:

  1. Promote the discussion among students and between students and others thinking about the role of nanothechnology in society.
  2. Inform the public, children and fellow students on what nanotechnology is and what it is not. Answer questions about the safety issues, powers, limitations, promises and opportunities of nanotechnology. Also, what are nanoscientists doing to help the environment? We have an outreach program, and materials for teachers to present to their classes under the teachers and students section.
  3. Stimulate interdisciplinary interactions among the nano-students from different departments, and between industry and the university.
  4. Inform nanostudents of their career choices in academia, industry, and other important topics such as patenting.

Goals:

  1. To stimulate and encourage interdisciplinary interactions among students as well as between students and faculty members in the TAMU nanotechnology community.
  2. To present a venue for students to present their work to a diverse audience of nanotechnology researchers.
  3. Inform student of their career choices in academia and industry as it pertains to nanotechnology

Methods:

  1. Periodic Seminars Including:
    a) Student and faculty speakers
    b) Prominent researchers and speakers from academia and industry
  2. Annual Networking Workshops:
    a) Workshop I: TAMU students and faculty participants
    b) Workshop II: TAMU and surrounding university participants
  3. Website Resources:
All valuable information pertaining to nanotechnology in TAMU; center listing, faculty and graduate student research profiles, conference information, resume listings, etc.
  4. Sponsored Conference Trips.
